The NFL wants to control Tweets
August 24, 2009
It seems that Twitter is starting to get on the wrong side of the NFL. Commissioner Roger Goodell is considering new policies that regulate players tweets. There are a number of reasons why the NFL would want to do this. Perhaps they prefer players to state there opinions on NFL sponsored networks. Or maybe the NFL is nervous at what players can say outside the locker room. The NFL has dark secrets like any other organization that they would rather be kept from public scrutiny. The NFLs’decisions sets a disturbing precedent. If they impose these new policies, other corporations outside the NFL will propose similar policies to its employees. Will this threaten freedom of speech? It’s certainly a good start. The government is already monitoring social networks and users who log into government sites. The NFL doesn’t want to begin acting like the thought policy controlling what NFL players say and do. What they do on the field is one thing. What they do on there own time is there business, not the NFLs’. But the NFL’s attempt at controlling its’ players tweets is another example of how powerful social networking really is. This should be more of an incentive to implement social networking into your business. Instead of stifling tweets, the NFL should embrace it and use it to promote America’s most popular sport. Got something to say?

I thought the old saying was “Bad Publicity is still good publicity” the sport networks sell ad space talking about man soap operas all day long. Most of the time I would think it would offend the commissioner if a player is arrested for drug’s and drunk driving. But letting them talk openly on a social network is a bad idea. Hmm.. very disturbing
Why is Rodger Goodell worried about tweets? HAHA. So he’s trying to control what people say now? Oh ok, Rodger Goodell must be the new National Director of Athletics Czar which is part of the Communist Barack Obama Parade. I get it now! Back Off Rodger Goodell. The NFL’s reputation was fine until you brought this issue up.
Yes NFLs’decisions a worrying precedent. If the imposition of these new policies, and other companies outside the NFL propose similar policies for their employees. This will threaten the freedom of expression? It’s certainly a good start. Government has already monitor social networks and users who are enrolled in government positions. NFL does not want to start acting like the NFL thought the policy of controlling what he says and does paintings
